Meet the team

Melanie Franklin

Chief Executive Officer

I have always been passionate about personal development. At the start of my career, I was always studying for new qualifications and challenging myself to learn new skills and meet new people. As a result, I have had a fantastic career, and I want to enable others to have the confidence to say yes to opportunities and the skills to succeed.

I am excited to share the practical techniques used successfully by myself and my network of experts around the world. We know these techniques work, because we use them to effect change on the transformation programs that we deliver. The artificial intelligence that powers our Change Capability Hub™ ensures that we provide relevant answers to the real-life situations you face when making change happen in your organisation.

My belief about change is that we only change if everyone who has to work differently makes a conscious decision to change what they do. We cannot tell people to change, their decision is based on their belief in the value of the new ideas and their confidence in their ability to adopt new ways of working. Change is not a strategy, it is about personal choice. We must inspire, encourage and reassure those impacted, and that means giving them the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead themselves from their existing habits and routines to a new way of thinking, acting and feeling.

The experiences that have created this knowledge – organisations you have worked for; jobs you have had; countries you have worked in:

I work for global and local organisations; organisations and brands that are instantly recognisable (United Nations; Toyota; L’Oreal) and small scale organisations doing great work behind the scenes.

I love sharing my knowledge so I speak at lots of events, face to face and virtual podcasts and webinars – anywhere I have a chance to debate how we make organisational change happen. I have also written 10 books on project, program and change management and I am the Chief Examiner for two global qualifications in organisational change and transformation.

Gillian Perry

Chief Information Officer

At the point I am at in my career I love to help others progress their careers and importantly take the change profession forwards.  I still feel we have lots to do to make this a core profession recognised and respected as a management discipline and I would love people to be able to build on what has been done to date.  I am proud of what we have all achieved but I am not sure that the profession will move forwards having only a few voices.  We need to learn from what is happening in organisations today, share what we are seeing and learning and start to work out how we can ensure the needs of members of organisation is taken into account as organisation change and transform.  When we started this community we had some key principles which we have maintained and I am proud of that.  We start a conversation and listen to all the knowledge and experience out there.

I love to engage others around change and have some creative problem solving and being creative around overcoming the impacts of the change on people.  I love to create workshops where people in organisation have an opportunity to tell their organisations what the change mean to them and get them to engage in creating ideas to make the change work for them, their teams, their department s and the organisations success.

I began my career in the energy sector where I specialised in managing change on major projects, Organisational Design and Organisational effectiveness. I became an independent consultant and have worked in the public and private sectors including energy, healthcare and engineering.  I have worked in the UK and spent time working with an organisation in the US.  I have done everything from IT to HR.  From working in a technical role to being an Industrial relations manager.  I spent a few years heading up a training organisation but for the last 20 years concentrated on managing change as a subject matter expert but also helping organisation design new structures and implement major projects.

I am the author of “Working with people to deliver successful projects” and I am the former Chair of the Change Management Institute UK and I was a global board member for the institute. Along with Melanie, I am Co-Founder of the Change Capability Community, a global thought leadership and networking group for change management professionals. I mentor managers building their capability in change and transformation.

Marlene Ive

Operations Manager

One of my talents is creating order out of chaos, so I concentrate on implementing many of the ideas that our founders, Melanie and Gillian have, along with our network of change and transformation experts. I bring my expertise for operational planning, efficiency and attention to detail to my work. This gives me a wider variety of responsibilities including quality assessing course materials, trialling master classes, preparing the financial accounts, event planning, organising travel and invigilating exams.

I love the energy and commitment to quality that we have at Capability for Change. Every day there is a new challenge, and we are always learning. We are all committed to helping our learners develop their skills and abilities, and I enjoy providing reassurance, signposting them to additional resources and making sure all their questions are answered.
