Summary Capability for Change Survey Results 2023
While there’s a commendable effort among respondents to nurture change management skills within their organisations, the momentum in capability development lags behind the surging tide of change.
A mere 20% assert that their current volume of change is manageable, marking a stark 50% decline from the previous year. Even more concerning, only 18% believe that adequate support is extended to those grappling with the challenges of change. The urgency to bridge this gap is evident, as the mismatch between skill enhancement and the escalating pace of change threatens to undermine organisational resilience.
Whilst there are high levels of change, there is a missed opportunity to scrutinise how effectively these changes deliver strategic benefits. Organisations must exercise caution before plunging into an influx of unmanageable, unreviewed change projects without an ample supply of capable individuals to navigate these transformations.
The imperative now is to cultivate capability not only among change professionals but also within the leadership echelon, where the current deficit in role modelling change is glaringly evident. It’s time to prioritise building the expertise needed to usher in and sustain meaningful organisational change.
