Why Establishing the Strategic Value of Change Management is Important
An ongoing concern for those of us leading the change function and developing change capabilities is the lack of engagement from senior leaders. I chaired the Change Management Institute for 6 years and now run the Change Capability Community, and this issue is continually raised as our “glass ceiling.”
Until we can connect the value of change management to the priorities and interests of senior leaders, we will remain off the top table, which limits our resources and reduces our impact.
Failure to achieve recognition for our profession and the value of our work is personally frustrating. It has significant implications for the effectiveness of our organisations, especially as the volume of change continues to rise. In the 2024 EY CEO survey, 58% of CEOs plan to accelerate their transformation agenda, and 37% plan to maintain the current pace. In December, Gartner published results showing that the average employee is impacted by 10 organisation-wide changes at any time, a five-fold increase from 2016.
How to Establish the Value of Change Management
With over 30 years of experience, I have spent much time and effort trying to convince senior leaders of the value of change management and the risks if we do not invest in change activities. I want to share with you the most effective messages I am using to generate commitment from these leaders – C-suite, divisional and department directors, and functional heads. In advance of the launch of my new book, Neuroscience for Change at Work, I will demonstrate brain-smart messages that establish change management as a strategic priority. My research over the last decade has shown that using neuroscience to form my communications triggers a visceral response, far more impactful than using rational arguments and common sense.
This is an exclusive event, limited to a specific peer group of senior change professionals. I will share my solutions, and you will have the chance to work with others in small breakout groups to debate my content and share your experiences.
I know time is limited, so I intend to create the greatest value in the shortest possible time. I have restricted this event to 55 minutes, with supporting materials and additional resources to follow.
Please join me – let’s raise awareness of our profession and establish ourselves as the valuable strategic force we know we are.
